Throw the Rascals out!!

How did all this come about and what can we do about it? I’ll elaborate the details in future posts but just note here that nothing can be done until we throw the rascals out!!! And I don’t mean just some them but all of them from all parties – politicians both democrat and republican, regulators that clearly haven’t done their jobs, and members of the corporate boards of directors who have also clearly failed in their fiduciary duties. We need to make it a clean sweep and if the new folks don’t correct things, if they get caught up in the power and corruption of the elitists then we need to throw them out as well.
Some may complain that this is a “throwing the baby out with the bath water” approach but extraordinary times require drastic actions. It is just too hard to break the incestuous relationship between politicians and lobbyists unless we make a clean break. As for the regulators and the corporate board members they have clearly been shown to be incompetent. Unfortunately they have so much power (economically and politically) that I am pessimistic that much can be done.
You may think that the recent elections give us some hope for change. I don’t believe it. After the recent elections the heads of the congressional economic committees remain unchanged and they are the same people who pushed the policies that have resulted in the current debacle. The politician/lobbyist symbiotic relationship remains intact. Congressional power is funneled via seniority to the very people responsible for the current troubles.
President Obama is a fresh face and many have high hopes for him. I wish him well but he has picked the same old guard to implement his economic strategies. Most of these strategies like the stimulus package will likely fail. I don’t think we’ll really make any headway until we
- Rid ourselves of this arrogant self-delusion (ASD) that we as a nation are so powerful that we can ignore fundamental economic forces and resource limitations.
- Address in a meaningful way the depletion of our industrial base and the real effects that monopolistic free trade has on our economy.
- Replace monopolistic free trade with competitive protectionism and rebuild our industrial base. (see Dr. Batra’s book The Myth of Free Trade: The Pooring of America
for a practical definition of competitive protectonism). - Regain control of our health and safety laws. I don’t know about you but I’m getting tired of all the imported adulterated food and lead contamination we have to deal with and the impotence of our regulatory laws to correct the situation because of our trade laws .
There’s more that we can do. I’ll list some additional items in a future article along with some supporting documentation.
