I was a God

What was happening to my vacation? It was supposed to be relaxing but, a college man. A college man was interested in my fourteen year old daughter! This wasn’t relaxing, it was a nightmare. My wife told me to calm down but I knew better. I’d have the stress of watching my daughter for the rest of our trip.

And I was right. It was one boy adventure after another. Typical was the incident in Yellowstone National Park. After not talking to me for couple of days my daughter approached me carrying a Nerf football and asked if I wanted to play some catch.

This was great I thought to myself. Finally we something we could do together. A real bonding opportunity. So we started playing catch and talking in front of our campsite.

I’d toss her the ball and she’d toss it back. She didn’t seem to get the hang of it at first since she consistently tossed it over my head and the ball would land about 20 feet behind me. No big deal, I just walked back and retrieved it and turned to walk back but being courteous my daughter had moved up so I didn’t have to retrace my steps. Eventually she figured things out and we continued playing catch with her tossing the ball to me instead of over me.

This is great I thought. A shared activity that we can use to bond together again. I had wanted to talk while playing catch but she was busy talking to some cute boys working at the adjacent campsite. Somehow she had ended up standing in front of these cute boys’ campsite as we tossed the ball and was now visiting with them instead of me.

“Bye dad, we’re going to a ranger lecture,” she told me throwing the ball back one last time. “See you later,” she added as they ran off.

What can I say? Except; Once I’d been a God!!!
