The following question was emailed to me by my grandson, “Can a humun sirviev in a space suet on mars?” This is my answer.
Yes, humans can survive in a space suit on Mars but only for short periods of time as long as the space suit has enough air and batteries (or power). The suit also needs a few other qualities too
Basically you have to wear a special space suit or stay inside a sealed chamber in order to survive on Mars. That is because the Martian atmosphere is so thin (scientists refer to thin atmospheres as “tenuous”). By thin I mean there is not much of it like there is here on Earth so Mars doesn’t have much air. In fact Mars is losing air all the time so a Martian space suit has to carry its own air supply.
Also you need batteries for power in order to keep warm. Plus a Martian space suit will have to have special seals to keep out the Martian dust which can clog the up the suit and make it fail. And finally you will need protection from the solar wind.
In order to stay longer longer than just a visit on Mars you also need food and water. In principle, Water is not a problem since they have found plenty of ice on Mars but food will be a problem if you plan staying very long. In spite of the problems there are missions to Mars that are being planned.
