Well, finally we were ready to leave yet still we waited and waited and waited. Passengers were collapsing around us and a mutinous muttering grew among those of us not asphyxiated yet. I guess the ominous atmosphere penetrated our driver’s noggin and he closed the side doors, climbed into the diver’s seat and began preparations for departure. AT LAST, we’d get some air conditioning and some much needed relief.

After running through his checklist the driver took out a small battered hand-held 3 inch battery operated fan which he affixed to the dashboard blowing on his face. We joked that this was the promised air conditioning. It was no joke as that and open windows were all we got.

The ride to International airport was interesting and we tried to keep our spirits up with jokes and amusing banter but underneath it all was the realization that we could all miss our promised flight. Constantly checking the time as we fought rush hour traffic to arrive at the airport in time there was a steady undercurrent of worry permeating the “limo”. We arrived at the airport with literally just minutes to spare. Dashing through the airport at breakneck speed we rushed to catch and hold the plane until all the van passengers could get there. That was when the things really got interesting but I’m getting tired now so I’ll finish this story in my next post (air adventures III).
