Campsite Surprise

The forest was certainly midget sized! So small in fact that we couldn’t find it. As for springs, we found two large dust filled holes where the springs were supposed to be. Probably the dust collected from the dust raised by the motorcycles that were racing through the campsite all day long. It was too late to look elsewhere to camp so “gritting” our teeth (not hard because of all the dust in the air) we pitched our tent and hunkered down to spend the night.
Obviously we were newbies to this type of camping because we were one of the isolated few using a tent. The rest of camp population had small trailers or camper trucks to keep out the heat, the noise and the dust. A tent simply was not sufficient especially with an infant in tow.
Mercifully darkness fell and with the dark we hoped for some relief. After about an hour the cyclists called it a day but then, then the partying began! So much for serenity.
Loud party music was the worst. Even with the various campsites essentially located in isolation as much as possible the never ending music assaulted our ears as if we were right next to the speakers. The effect on our daughter was extreme. She needed her sleep.
I took it as long as I could before getting dressed to complain. I didn’t get the chance. When I found the party I was about eighth or ninth in line to complain. Several of those ahead of me were part of the motorcycle groups and held instruments of persuasion prominently displayed. The lady that greeted our mob took one look and called for backup. Backup then greeted the growing mob and agreed to cease the party immediately!
We no longer camp. At our age we prefer motels but there is something to be said for nostalgia I suppose.
