B.R.A.T Now we know

My recent sojourn into the realms of radiation therapy has produced some unfortunate side effects. Chiefly a condition that resembles diarrhea. Grandma Oddball suggested that I start using the B.R.A.T. Diet as a method of controlling the condition.
“GREAT” I thought! Who wouldn’t want a diet of
- Bacon
- Ribs
- Alcohol
- Teriyaki
Sprinkled with peppers and seasoning (I’m not allowed much salt) it sounded great but when I blurted it out to Grandma I received the now famous LOOK. She wasn’t impressed.
Oh well, I guess that I have to settle for the usual B.R.A.T. ingredients of
- Bananas – almost green and not overly ripe
- Rice – regular white rice and not wild rice
- Applesauce – apple juice and apples won’t work
- oast – bland old white bread; no whole grains but at least I’m allowed a smattering of butter but grandma severely limits the amount
The diet seems aptly named as a synonym for blandness.
Oh well, I have to make the best of it I suppose. Attempting to distract Grandma from the LOOK I noted the similarity in discussions topics between children and the elderly. The chief conversation of both is bodily functions with the crucial difference that children generally find humor and a great deal of pleasure in the shock value of such conversations while the elderly tend to wistfully discuss more practical matters and how to solve certain inevitable aging conditions.
As grandma and I age we are becoming amused at this comparison. Bowel movements, upset stomachs, blood pressure, burping, etc. are getting to be a staple of our conversation. Sigh, we are becoming our parents and grandparents.
Consider this post as my latest medical update. The side effects from the last treatment are far more severe than the previous treatments. I just hope being radiated was worth it. I know I’m slow lately to update this web site but hopefully when these side effects pass I’ll be able to post articles with some better regularity.
