Another week of gloom (and doom?) here in the Pacific Northwest. Fortunately we had no rain last Sunday so grandma and I were able to get outside for awhile. Grandma took me to a local wetland's park which was interesting. In spite of it being so wet that the boardwalk trail was impassible in spots we managed to spend enough time outside to recharge my mental health.

Hard to believe I know. I can hardly believe it myself. Time doesn't march on inexorably; it simply evaporates leaving behind a residue full of memories, emotions, and past regrets !! Just yesterday we were married and now two children and two grandchildren later we are celebrating our 44th wedding anniversary.

Welcome, welcome, welcome 2011. We look forward you what you have store for us. Grandma Oddball is ready for the new year as you can see from her inner child pictured here. Let's hope that her inner child doesn't melt away too fast !
It's been an eventful month. Well, for that matter, it's been an eventful year but I'll just stick to the last month or so. During the month's course several things struck me as amusing, interesting, significant, and, on occasion, sad. I'm not sure my leaky brain can remember everything but I'll try.

Lions, tigers and bears, heck they're nothing. We saw dragons, dinosaurs and flying pigs when grandma and I went to the fair. It was a rare good day for me with no nurse visit scheduled and no MS attack to bedevil me so we decided to just take a chance, pack up the wheelchair and go.
The trip also gave me a chance to field test my new camera system and eliminate a few more bugs in the system. The system worked “fairly” well and I'm posting a photo and video record of the trip (click on a picture if you'd like to see more detail). You'll have to tell me in the comments what you think of the effort.

Have you ever been scared? Not movie scared but scared by incidences in your life. I have and it was some most unpleasant experiences. Mostly I got scared for my wife and children but on occasion events affecting me would scare me but usually not at the time. When the events occurred I would usually just get mad at my own stupidity. It was only later when I realized the consequences that I would let the potential outcome scare me.

My son was emphatic, his patience growing thin at the slowpoke ahead of us. Traffic was thick and blowing a horn would do little good but that cuts no ice with the young. I think he may have wanted to just hear the horn. This trait repeatedly surfaced over the years. When I first started using a cane he got a big squeeze horn and attached it. I couldn't really use it since I only had one useful hand. Later when I was confined to a wheelchair he complained about the wimpy horn on the chair. If I listened to my son he would have installed a big aah-ooga horn.

Horrified the shocked waitress stepped back and stared as we responded to our son's asking pointedly, “What's that?” Not so our son. He attacked the “blood” with gusto while our young daughter had that typically resigned look that said,”Oh brother, dad's at it again". She was less than impressed.

“Are we there yet”?
The youngsters plaintive cry echoed down the the train's observation car causing more than one head to turn and smile. (more...)

Twas a rowdy group imbued with raucous laughter watching the black curling smoke lazily ascend into the bright morning sky above that cloaked hilltop mound. Indistinct chants and strange music filled the clear bright air with a fog of curious excitement. Crashing down the forested mound and spilling onto the meadow below the demonic sounds from the obvious debauchery floated across the meadow assaulting those innocents peacefully picnicking at that remote forest service site.
