  • Republican Debate Analysis 9-22-2011

    Sunday, September 25th, 2011

The other night I bit the bullet and listened to my first presidential primary debate for the upcoming election. I was not impressed not just with the debate but also with the ubiquitous spin and pundit analysis filling the airways and the internet afterward. I watched the debate and don't need someone else telling me what to think. I'll make up my own mind, thank you.

  • Egyptian Chaos – A Harbinger?

    Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Egypt, a cradle of civilization with a rich and storied intellectual and cultural heritage, is in convulsion. A civilization once so successful and powerful that it has endured through eons has been reduced by, well we'll explore how later, has been reduced to a poverty stricken subsistence filled with turmoil, intrigue, intolerance, and envy but while predicting the immediate outcome of the current maelstrom is dicey at best the ultimate result is obvious.

    BOOK REVIEW

The Road to Serfdom: Text and Documents--The Definitive Edition
(The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek, Volume 2)

    Author: F.A. Hayek
Publisher: The University of Chicago Press

I have heard about this book for a long time and was more than curious about it. Surrounded by controversy it was difficult to separate fact from fiction by reading reviews of the book. In fact in the reviews I read about this book two things became immediately apparent:

  • rage raGE UNCONTROLLABLE RAGE

    Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Blind irrational overwhelming unreasoning rage striking without warning. Sometimes amusing in a perverse sort of way but often causing not just havoc but, on occasion, death. Unfortunately plagues of anger and violence continue spreading unchecked across the globe creating an epidemic of unprecedented proportions.

I'm not talking about outrage or legitimate anger. I'm talking about some serious contagions gradually infecting all the world's various cultures be they religious, political, economic or even philosophical in nature. The fundamental question is; What is the cause and how do we combat or cope with this pestilence?

  • TOO BIG TO FAIL

    Friday, May 14th, 2010

    too big to fail bailout

Once again we hear the hackneyed and ubiquitous rationale “too big to fail” as governments bailout yet another irresponsible enterprise! This time it's a country, Greece. Looming on the horizon are Spain, Ireland, and California. Who knows maybe the entire economic system is threatened! When you think critically about the situation then several embarrassing questions immediately arise:

    • Who's paying for all these these bailouts?
    • How did we get in this situation?
    • More importantly what can be done to fix things?

  • A Crazed Start

    Monday, January 11th, 2010

    nutty judge

2010 is upon us and it's an exciting start to a new year. What will the year bring? Using history as our guide we'll get a new beginning full of promise, hope and certainly the unexpected as well as the crazy, bizarre and demented behavior of those around us. In past years others have documented this type of behavior (e.g., the Darwin Awards) and, of course, you have to ask, "What were they thinking?". The usual response?" It seemed like a good idea at the time!"
