"Get out of my way, I'm on vacation !!!" shouted grandma at the car poking along in front of us as we headed for our daughter's house to spend the night before leaving on our cruise. Her serious intense gaze never waived as I suddenly started laughing. That didn't her improve her mood. In fact her mood didn't improve until after we passed the slowpoke and the irony of the situation struck home. No, she wasn't stressed - much. It had been a hectic few days packing including all of my necessary medical paraphernalia and now we were late for a birthday party. Fortunately traffic thinned out and we made it to the party on time.

We're back !! Our ten day adventure has ended and we're still alive and kicking (barely). As the regular blog readers know our original plans had to be scrapped so we had to devise a fallback plan. In hindsight this was a good thing because we made a lot of planning and travel mistakes. For example, while both grandma and I talked about taking along a gait belt in the end we both forgot to put it on our pre-trip lists.

Anyway it was a good trip to visit our son whom I hadn't been able to visit for years due to my illness. Our scaled back trip commenced with a three day ANTRAK train trip from Seattle to Washington, DC. We then spent a week in DC with our son visiting our nations capital before flying home.

"Hold that plane!" We urged arriving at the departure gate. Our return home escapade was already episodic (see Air Adventures II) but finally we'd caught a plane just before departure. With more passengers streaming behind us from the airline "limo" ride for this flight we tried to help them by holding the airplane for them. It was a futile gesture as the next crisis was already starting.

"That flight's been canceled."

"What do you mean canceled? The information monitor lists it as on schedule," I was not happy. A long and difficult work week away from home and family had finally ended with this fresh obstacle facing us. I was unhappy but my business colleague was steamed! Faced with imperious indifference he blew his top as he not too gently informed the airline employee that his response was not acceptable.
